DWF’s entire team of Bufffalo City TB peer educators received their Level 1 First Aid Certificates after successively completing an accredited course at St John’s Ambulance in East London earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The 38 peer educators are deployed at Fort Grey and Nkqubela TB Hospital and at 36 local clinics, where they assist with direct observation of treatment, peer education and setting up and managing support groups.<\/p>\n

In addition to their work at the hospitals and clinics, some of the health promoters are also working in Fort Glamorgan and Mdantsane prisons, where they assist with screening and TB awareness.<\/p>\n

“It is important for all our health promoters and peer educators to have basic first aid competencies to ensure they are equipped to deal with any medical or emergency situations they may come across, especially during home visits,” TB project manager Mike Brunt says.<\/p>\n

“Equipping these workers with accredited qualifications also up-skills them and positions them for future personal development.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
