The first week of December 2015 sees a number of visitors staying at and enjoying the facilities at the Donald Woods Centre at Hobeni.

The first is the UK-based maternal health clinician, Dr Kim Turner who is heading up a group of Obstetrics and Gynaecology doctors who will be based at the Donald Woods Centre while working with the Maternal Health Department at Madwaleni Hospital as part of a plan for DWF to increase support for maternal and child health in the area.

Dr Turner is the daughter of Rick Turner, the academic and anti-apartheid activist who was assassinated in front of her in January 1978 by the Security Police.

Dr Turner’s mother, Barbara Follett, is a former UK Government Minister and is now a member of DWF’s UK Board of Trustees.

The second visitor is a specialist in rehabilitation and rural development, Dr Gubela Mji who heads up the Centre for Rehabilitation Studies in the Medicine and Health Science Faculty at Stellenbosch University.

Dr Mji will be overseeing a group of postgraduate students conducting research in local clinics around the Hobeni area.

The DWF would like to welcome Dr Turner and Dr Mji. We wish you a pleasant stay.
