The Donald Woods Foundation ended Heritage Month with a huge celebration at the Donald Woods Centre at Hobeni which saw close to 1,000 people celebrating Xhosa culture and the rich heritage of the amaBomvana people.

The day drew residents from all over the Mbashe district including dignitaries from government departments, Chiefs and associated traditional authorities, Queen Nobangile Gwebindlala, the Mbashe municipality’s Mayor Samkelo Janda and ward councillors, traditional healers, cultural groups, musicians and dancers.

“We celebrated the culture and history of the amaBomvana, we ate together, danced and sang,” said DWF’s general manager, Barbara Briceland.

The day’s success was due to the hard work of DWF’s Heritage Team headed by Skin Sipoko and ably assisted by Vasco Juju and Sicelo Kolokolo. Each and every DWF staff member assisted, all contributing to the success of the day, many working from sunrise to well into the night after everyone had gone home.

DWF thanks our partners in the celebration: Imbumba Yamakhosikazi Akomkhulu (Elliotdale) a non-profit for Traditional Leaders’s wives which co-ordinates social issues relating to rural women, Mbashe Local Municipality, Government departments, the talented performers, and lastly but not least – the beautiful amaBomvana people.
